ADS-B JAMMING MITIGATION WITH A MULTICHANNEL
RECEIVER
Let us consider d independent sources (different ADS-B messages,
or ADS-B messages plus a jamming signal) impinging on a m elements antenna connected to a multichannel receiver (see Figure 2).
The baseband signals, after collecting T time samples from the m
antenna elements, can be represented as:

In (1), X = [x[1],..., x[T ]] is the m × T received signal matrix,
S = [s[1],..., s[T ]] is the d × T source matrix, N is the m × T additive noise matrix, and M is the m × d mixing matrix that contains
the antenna/receiver array signatures and the complex gains of the
sources. In the particular case of the TDR (a uniform linear array of
four elements with the interdistance between the elements chosen
as λ ) and considering all sources at nominal frequency fc, M is

the steering matrix that contains the m = 4 elements steering vectors, that are [28]:

be treated as a signal overlapping problem. The benefit of this
method relies on the possibility to "remove" the jammer signals from the valid ones, restoring the receiver's original performance. To do this, the best candidate between the previously
mentioned algorithms is the Extended Projection Algorithms
(EPA), shown in [28], that uses the different AOA of the signals
to separate the sources also in the case of totally superimposed
signals.

where θi is the AOA of the ith source measured with respect to
perpendicular direction of the antenna, i.e. horizontal AOA (see
Figure 2).
The EPA algorithm estimates the mixing matrix M in order
to derive the best beamformers for the different impinging signals. This procedure is applicable when at least one of the sources
(jammer or ADS-B message) has an interference-free portion. For
example, in the case of two overlapping signals, it is possible to estimate a mixing matrix M1 corresponding to a beam pointed to the
