receiver, unless expensive and/or time-consuming methodologies
were used-i.e., a differential global positioning system (GPS) or
real-time-kinematic on-the-fly (RTK/OTF) techniques with signal
phase analysis.

CONCLUSIONS AND FUTURE WORKS
This report shows the implementation and development of a system composed of a series of ranging sensors that are useful for a
safe landing procedure of a small quadrotor. Future work will be
mainly related to UAS platform development and improvement in
terms of safety, endurance, and sensor fusion.
The main activities in progress are the following:

Hybrid unmanned aircraft system: [5] To increase the endurance of a small quadrotor, introducing a gas balloon above
it (Figure 4).
Airliner damage visual inspection through UAS: With a
high-definition (HD) camera mounted on a quadrotor, it will
possible to acquire several frames, which could allow one to
make a visual inspection of an airliner. It will be also possible to detect damage caused by hail or lighting strike.
Fuzzy algorithm for sensor fusion: Fuzzy logic is used to
improve sensors' distance performance.
Determination of sound power levels of a small UAS during flight operations: It is important to measure the noise
of these platforms and estimate their impact for the acoustic
pollution [6].
