the pilot. This means that the pilot will have an option to operate
these wings on the final stages of landing/touch down to prevent
damage to the aircraft.
An emergency system may also be developed wherein the aircraft
can be operated as an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) where it
either flies in autonomous mode or is piloted remotely. In other
words, if the aircraft is operating in the vicinity of any airfield/
airport then the forced landing may be facilitated remotely, in the
same way as an UAV is controlled and landed back on completion
of its mission. Similarly, if the aircraft is not operating in the vicinity of any airfield, then it can fly in autonomous mode and land accordingly using the autopilot system. However, this would require
installing other electronic equipment on board the aircraft similar
to those fitted in UAVs. The autopilot software would also need to
be modified so that the hardware is suitably controlled by it based
on whether the control architecture being used is "close-loop" or
"open-loop". This entire system and procedure would need to be
controlled and activated by the SDU as soon as the gliding system
is activated.

A human life is most precious and if, with introduction of some
new avionics and procedures, it can be saved then that would be
the best contribution one can make for the humanity. Comparatively, more aircraft accidents take place when an aircraft is en-route
and are generally associated with many fatalities and with huge
material losses. Thorough study of these types of incidents indicate that such accidents and incidents can be handled effectively by

REMOTELY CONTROLLED LANDING
making minor modifications in onboard
avionics, software, mechanical systems,
structure, and standard operating procedures. Some of these modifications
have been recommended in this article
and include activation of an emergency
handshake system, activation of a gliding system, and remote control of the
aircraft. These modifications would ensure that aircraft can be tracked in real
time and the incidents where we hear
about "missing aircraft" would be reduced considerably. It would also ensure
that the fatalities due to en-route accidents are reduced to a very large extent
wherein the aircraft would glide down
safely with minimum impact on ground.
The recommendations suggested in this
article are highly implementable with
minor modifications to the existing facilities and onboard systems.
