tuation, the envelope shift, and the phase modulation of the echoes.
Second, the essence of these methods is the projection of echo energy into a low-dimensional parameter space via the preceding
RFT, GRFT, or GFT. That is, the input of FBD is the range-compressed echoes and the output of FBD is the coherent integrated
results in parameter space by compensating for the envelope shifts
and phase difference among different samplings. The first feature
may be the same as the typical TBD method of HT, which can be
regarded as a special case of GRT. However, the second feature is
different from HT in that only amplitude samplings are integrated.
Compared with the existing RSP methods, there are also two main
advantages for the proposed FBD method. First, the FBD method
can overcome ARC, ADC, and ABW effects, because these ef-

fects are all caused by certain motion parameters and they can be
compensated as long as these motion parameters are obtained via
FBD methods. Besides, it can simultaneously accomplish target
detection and parameter estimation in statistically optimal ways.
That is, GRFT is not only an LRT but also an MLE in an AGWN
background. What is more important is that it is proven that both
low-RCS and high-speed target detection performance may be improved without changing radar system parameters [38]-[42].
Because of the multidimensional search used for the proposed
FBD-based methods, such as GRFT, GFT, and GRT, their computational complexities may be high, which may be a problem for real applications [39], [41]. The recent developments on their fast implementations
are reported in [43], i.e., the second article of this two-article series.
