vices, and applications. The RF cloud architecture allows a number of novel services and applications to be enabled. As a first
enabler of RF data analytics services, we use the platform for
long-term spectrum monitoring. We give examples by using the
results from long-term spectrum monitoring for applications related to the different types of data analytics. Examples of descriptive
RF data analytics applications for operation estimation, spectrum
occupancy, or efficiency of spectrum utilization are given. As appropriate applications related to RF predictive and prescriptive
analytics, we give examples of spectrum occupancy forecasting
and interference identification. We show how through a proper
RF data analytic approach, the detection and identification of a
specific type of interference in the UL channel in a mobile BS
could be detected. In addition, we give an example how RF data
analytics can be used for the determination of opportunities for
using different unoccupied frequency bands for additional or new
mobile communication services in a given area or location. With
all these examples, we justify our assertion that novel RF data
analytics services and applications can be introduced and related
to spectrum efficiency, interference identification, and spectrum
utilization forecasting. Finally, the introduction of RF data analytics services can help assure the public on the potential influence
of EM radiation on human health.
We propose that sensing, monitoring, and building of big RF
databases and the application of proper RF analytics tools will help
devices, networks, and organizations obtain insight into the RF
spectrum. The results indicate that RF data analytics will contribute to further advances in telecommunication technology and will
have also a strong business and societal impact.
