tures (ISa). In the DAS sub-architecture, the Smart Master Unit
(SMU) and the Smart Remote Unit (SRU) are the OMU and ORU
equivalents of the usual DAS, with intelligence being the add-on
attribute. The intelligence of ISa, is collocated with SMU at the
BS hub, defined as the Network Intelligence Unit (NIU), and uses
the under layered DAS architecture to distribute intelligence across
the network.
The thing that makes SCIDAS different from other SoN is
the ISa. This is because, unlike the other intelligent networks,
ISa has a separate layer of sensing to detect the PTC2 wobbles.
This sensing layer, which is defined as the Active Probing Network (APN) in [5], works on the concept of variation in channel matrix, given in (2) below, which is evaluated using the
changes in the received signals to be detected by the distributed
receivers.

where, Ψ is the receive signal vector, H is the channel matrix, χ is
the transmit vector, and ξ is the noise vector. This means that if we
detect receive signals at different points, we can identify variations
in the propagation channel, which can indicate the user accumulations and accumulated motions. It is the unique ability of the SCIDAS architecture to utilise the traditional DAS better that makes
it a better choice for future radio networks. As shown in Figure 5,
the underneath DAS network is used by APN to sense the received
signals from the various antennas that are connected to the same
SMU, by ISa to control the various SRUs, and by the BSs at the
hub to disseminate the resources.

Maneuverability
Maneuverability is also a unique feature of the SCIDAS that makes
it a superior choice. At each remote site, there is a maneuverable
and controllable platform (MCP), which mounts the antennas. ISa
controls the MCP where it (ISa) can instruct MCP to change the
azimuth, height, and orientations of the installed antenna, separately and individually. Thus ISa, with the assistance of SMU, can
instruct SRU and MCP to make each antenna behave in absolute
discipline, right from controlling the power to the direction and
tilts.

There are also more advanced architectures, known as the selforganised networks (SoN) [10], which manage, optimise, configure, and heal the radio access network better and faster. Despite
being the latest approaches, they are not sufficient to tackle the
PTC2 problem.

The Intelligent Sub-architecture
The architecture that we have proposed in [5] has two layers, the
underneath DAS sub and the overlayed intelligent sub-architec70

WORKING OF SCIDAS
Here, we discuss how every component of SCIDAS who work in
coordination to be acknowledged as an intelligent network.

Working of the DAS Sub-architecture
SMUs, which are connected to BSs, disperse the resources in a
conventional manner. Meaning that, just like standard DAS operations, all the BSs' resources will be converted into optical signals
at SMUs to be distributed through the OFN to reach various SRUs,
where they are converted back to RF signals.
ISa prevents the allocation of all the resources to all the SRUs
and iteratively distributes the resources according to the immediate
needs that are sensed by the APN.
