North Island of New Zealand Hosts AEA South Pacific Regional Meeting
The 14th annual AEA South Pacific Regional Meeting returned to the beautiful islands of New Zealand in November 2011. The event took place in the capital city of Auckland on the North Island and hosted the largest group of attendees and exhibitors in the history of AEA’s South Pacific meetings. DAC International welcomed members to an evening dinner cruise aboard the “Ocean Eagle” catamaran to kick off the annual event. AEA’s two-day meeting included a comprehensive regulatory program where attendees could learn about the new exposition manual for Part 145 facilities, the new transition guide, CASA’s organizational structure and updates on new maintenance regulations. In addition, technical topics by L-3 Avionics, Aspen Avionics, Honeywell, Aviation Safety, Aeroflex, Telstat, Garmin and Avidyne were presented. winner of the Outstanding Apprentice Award for the region. Sponsored by EDMO Asia Pacific, Hamilton Aero and the AEA Educational Foundation, the award recognizes an apprentice technician – who is employed by an AEA member company – for exemplary performance and demonstrated professionalism in his or her field. Ben Johannsen of Cairns, Australia,
was the recipient of this year’s honor and cash awards. Johannsen, a highly recommended apprentice in his fourth year with Australian Avionics was awarded Dux of his Class for his enthusiasm and ability in his studies at the Aviation Australia school in Cairns. He and his wife, Emma, travelled to Auckland for the ceremonies. q
