any readings out of tolerance; a new GTS 820 traffic system; GTX 330ES transponder; electroluminescent lighting and an upgrade to the aircraft’s autopilot. When did the project begin? June 15, 2010 When was it completed? Sept. 28, 2010 What makes this project unique? This was the first entire panel replacement we have carried out in one installation, as well as being the first electroluminescent panel we have installed. The type of equipment installed was the first of its kind fitted together in this type of aircraft.
Did any problems occur while working on the project? The interfacing for the required data inputs and displays for all the different systems installed were not completely explained within their corresponding manuals. How were the problems resolved? Through continuous communication with the manufacturing representatives to design the interfacing requirements. Did you learn anything from this project? The time involved in placement of instruments in a new aircraft panel is essential to getting it right. It also takes time to get EL panels exactly how you require them. A lot of interfacing technicalities were also learned. With most jobs, the way new avionics are installed, configured and tested constantly varies, not just with different manufacturers but also with new generations of avionics systems. What was the customer’s response? The end result was well beyond the customer’s expectations. Additional Comments: This project required a lot of work, and it was important to communicate well with the technicians involved. All in all, it was a very rewarding result for an avionics company. q
