the system’s dual RS422 interface. REVUE THOMMEN AG engineered the new Helicopter Searchlight HSL-1600 in cooperation with Transas Aviation. Headquartered in Cork, Ireland, Transas develops and produces avionics and flight simulators for fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft. The Searchlight’s solid-state drives were custom engineered by Maxon Motor, a Swiss company that specializes in high-precision motors and drive systems. One of the most expensive components in the entire system, the drives significantly increase reliability and performance to a mean time between failure rates of 5,000 hours. The product’s most notable feature is the patent-pending infrared filter design within the light assembly. “In the past, the 1,600-watt infrared searchlights in the fleet have used an IR filter flap that flips down over the main searchlight lens to accomplish night-vision capability,” Paul said. “That forces the aircraft to slow down dramatically, interrupting the mission until the filter is in place. “The REVUE THOMMEN IR filter is housed within the light assembly itself, allowing deployment without reducing the aircraft’s airspeed and interrupting the mission.
