EUROCONTROL
It seems the initial timeline to introduce 8.33 kHz radios below FL 195 in Europe has slipped and is now anticipated by EUROCONTROL to be mandated by 2018. Mandating 8.33 kHz throughout the European airspace seems to be the only realistic proven solution to meet the forecast demand for new frequencies in the mid to long term. The cost of implementation for the extension below FL 195 is considerable, but the overall benefit is significant enough to introduce this change. The proposed implementation plan identifies the need for all radios operating in the ICAO EUR region to have 8.33 kHz channel spacing capability by Jan. 1, 2018, except for cases where no conversion is feasible.

Australia
The following guidance documents are available on the Australian government’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority website. CASA advised that revised AMC/GM CASR Part 147 – Maintenance Training Organizations has been published. CASA advised of new Standards Development project: MS 12/36 – Amend CAO 20.18 – to remove the uncertainty about the phrase “all instruments and equipment fitted to the aircraft.” CASA advised that CAAP 50B-1(0) – Alternative log books for Class B aircraft has been cancelled and removed from the CASA website. CAAP 50A/B-1(0) – Aircraft Log Books and Alternate to Aircraft Log Books published in September 2012 replaces this CAAP. CASA advised that Final Advisory Circular AC 42-3(0) – Reliability Programs has been published. CASA advised SS 12/35 – Advisory Circular that provides CASR Part 11 guidance covering electronic certification, procedures, records and related electronic security matters. q
