Slated to be certified in 2013, the new system features a 4.2-inch diagonal high-resolution display and a separate remote sensor unit. “With a wide screen that is only 1.5 inches deep, the display can be installed in nearly any location in the cockpit without panel clearance issues,” said LARRY RIDDLE, vice president of sales and marketing, business and regional aircraft, for L-3 Aviation Products. “The separate remote sensor package also has the flexibility to be located almost anywhere in the aircraft, freeing up valuable real estate from behind the panel.” According to the company, L-3 has developed a two-part system that separates the display from the sensor array, allowing technicians to conveniently install the system behind the aircraft’s panel, including areas with limited space. A remote sensor unit houses rate/level sensors, air data transducers and optional accelerometers, which deliver attitude, altitude, airspeed and navigation data to the high-resolution, wide-screen DU-42 display. Heading data is available using an ARINC 429 source or the L-3 MAG-3000 magnetometer. The GH-3900RSU allows the installer to define data I/O interfaces, static source error correction and velocity maximum operating values, as well as customize display parameters. The GH-3900RSU builds on L-3’s line of solid-state standby systems for fixed-wing Part 25, Part 23 (Class III and IV) and Part 27/29 rotorcraft. Incorporating all important visual cues on a high-resolution 5.25-inchby-3-inch display, the instrument is a more precise and information-rich standby than traditional analog indicators. With a customizable layout, the GH-Series instruments can be modified to fit a wide range of primary avionics systems, giving pilots a familiar reference for flying the aircraft. Interfaces support ARINC 429, RS-422 Serial Bus, RS-232 Serial Bus, discrete and analog input signals. WEST STAR AVIATION has installed the first set of Aviation Partners Inc. blended winglets on a customerowned Dassault Falcon 50EX. API received an STC from the FAA on the winglets in September 2012, with EASA approval pending. In addition to the Falcon 50EX, West Star Aviation’s East Alton team has accomplished several winglet installations, including the installation of spiroid winglets on a Falcon 50 as a research project. West Star also completed the first Falcon 900EX installation, which was used as the FAA certification aircraft. Since the launch of the winglets by API, West Greg Byrnes Star has completed several Falcon 900 and Falcon 2000 series aircraft. West Star is authorized by API to install winglets on the Falcon 900B, 900C, 900DX, 900EX, 900EX EASy, Falcon 2000, 2000EX, 2000EX EASy and Falcon 50, 50EX. ● In other news...
