Working within a specific budget, the customer wanted basic IFR capabilities and a panel to provide customers with confidence that his prior panel did not.
The 1979 Piper Aztec prior to a new custom panel and installation of Garmin’s GNS430W and SL30.
When did the project begin? Sept. 20, 2011 When was it completed? Oct. 14, 2011 What makes this project unique? This was a routine job with the exception that more items were nonfunctioning than functioning. Did any problems occur while working on the project? No problems were encountered. Did you learn anything from this project? Taking a little extra time to remove needless wiring and j-box clutter cleans up an install, eliminates potential future maintenance
issues and greatly improves audio system quality. What was the customer’s response? According to the customer, “Fly BVI approached APG for an avionics upgrade project based on a good relationship the two companies have had for many years. The quote wasn’t the least expensive, but we definitely feel the services and work were worth every dollar. They did not compromise on quality standards and understood that we had a tight budget. They did everything to stay as close as possible to the estimate. They also were very good at providing regular feedback while the work was being performed. They kept us informed on any snags encountered during the upgrade. They also did fantastic work building a new panel from scratch, which gave our old bird a new life. They are highly recommended.” Additional Comments: Always remove unnecessary or poor condition wiring, and the job will go smoothly in the end. q
