sports as a traditional fan,” he said. “For family time, we’ll go to a Missouri Tigers football game or another sporting event, and the girls love that, too.” As with all profiled staff members, Hill was provided a list of open-ended questions and asked to answer five questions of his choice. Here is Hill in his own words. What is your favorite TV show? Book? Movie? My favorite TV show is “SportsCenter” on ESPN. I also enjoyed the NBC mini-series called “The West Wing.” I didn’t care for the producer’s political agenda, but the show was very entertaining. My favorite book is Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey. He outlines seven baby steps to financial success that everyone should follow. My favorite movie is “Christmas Vacation” with Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold.

If you didn’t work for the AEA, what other career might you have had? In another life, what other occupation appeals to you? I actually lived a previous life before the AEA in the world of college and professional sports. I worked in the public relations office for the Kansas City Royals when eventual Hall of Famer George Brett collected his 3,000th hit. He retired the next year, and I was involved in planning and promoting his last home game celebration. That job gave me experiences I will never forget. I was able to personally meet and work with some of the most famous and well-respected people in Major League Baseball. I also worked in media relations and marketing positions for several years at UMKC, a newcomer to NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics. It was quite a challenge helping to build a program from its infancy. I eventually chose to leave the sports industry due to the time commitment away from home and family. I was able to live my dream while I was young and didn’t have children, but it’s more important now for me to be home with my wife and two daughters. I miss game day occasionally, but I don’t miss the stress of working in sports. Every decision your

organization makes is publicly analyzed to the microscopic detail. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? I want to travel and watch my alma mater, the University of Missouri Tigers, play a road game somewhere in the Southeastern Conference. With the Big 12 Conference on the verge of collapse twice in the last two years, Mizzou was invited to join the SEC by having a large in-state population with two major media markets in Kansas City and St. Louis, a strong brand and a lot of recent football success. This move to the SEC gives the program long-term stability. I can’t wait to experience the SEC environment at both home and away football games next year and beyond. What is the most important lesson life has taught you? The most important job in the world is being a good parent. The greatest gift I can give my two daughters is to teach good values and how to be a responsible and productive citizen. A parent is a child’s most important teacher. What would you do if you won the lottery? After giving a healthy tithe to my church, I would travel on several cruises, golf and sit on the beach with an endless supply of amaretto sours. There would be lots of seafood and steak dinners with family and friends. q
