Three directors have been added to the EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION board, which governs the 176,000-member aviation organization. The three new directors, JACK PELTON, STUART AUERBACH and DARREN PLEASANCE, bring extensive aviation and business background to the board, in addition to longtime EAA involvement and thousands of hours of flight time. “Their expertise will be very valuable as EAA aims to grow participation in aviation and inspire the next generation of aviators,” said ROD HIGHTOWER, EAA president/ CEO. LOCKHEED MARTIN have achieved a

new milestone for NextGen – the ongoing transformation of the National Airspace System. The En Route Automation Modernization program, which replaces a 40-year-old system used at 20 FAA air traffic control centers, began operational use at six sites: Chicago, Los Angeles, Oakland, Albuquerque, Minneapolis and Denver.

The centers in Salt Lake City and Seattle have been fully operational for more than a year. The computer system used at these centers to guide airplanes flying at high altitude is considered the backbone of the nation’s airspace system. Air traffic controllers rely on the computer system to process flight and radar data, deliver communications and generate display data. Next steps include

transitioning these initial sites to continuous operations once safety and technical checks are complete. ERAM provides the foundation for NextGen capabilities, which will increase capacity, improve efficiency and provide environmental benefits to users of the aviation system.
