ters as needed. “I typically get to Lee’s Summit about once a quarter, and I’m usually there if we host FAA or industry meetings,” he said. In addition to working with the Federal Aviation Administration and other federal agencies, Peri interacts with the European Aviation Safety Agency and must be knowledgeable about regulatory affairs in 42 different countries. When not engaged in Washington, ottawa, Cologne, Canberra or Lee’s Summit, Peri and his wife, Liz, split their time between Maryland and Liz’s hometown (and Peri’s adopted town) of New orleans. “We hosted a rotorcraft forum with the FAA to open a dialog on how to improve avionics installations in helicopters,” Peri said. “We’re involved in NextGen. In Europe, we just completed rulemaking activity under EASA concerning the development of an avionics engineer’s license for general aviation, and we’re currently working on two more projects with licensing and type ratings. In Canada, we’re working on SMS, which will be introduced at the AEA Convention. It’s an immediate need for Canadians, but it’s a tool that can be used at 900 of 950 repair stations no matter where they are located. In Australia, we’re completing a rewrite of the maintenance regulations from a british model to an EASA model.” As for what he likes best about his job, Peri said, “I love being able to stay active in aviation and the diversity of every day, with
no two days ever the same. I love teaching, and I love writing. I write five articles every month for Avionics News. When he’s not working, Peri said he’s a “pretty committed motorcyclist.” He also is a cook, fisherman and a history buff. Like other AEA staff profiles, a list of questions was presented to Peri to gain some further insight into his views and personality. What’s your favorite television show? Book? Movie? I’m not passionate about any one show, book or movie. on the show side, I tend to watch the Sunday morning news shows; on the Food Network, “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives”; and on the Speed Channel, the Hot Rod restoration shows. on fictional books, I like anything written by Clive Cussler or Stephen Coonts. In non-fiction, I like biographies and history, nearly anything on aviation. I like whatever movie the airline is showing. What do most people not know about you that might surprise them?
