What one tip would you share with other AEA members working with their local FSDO manager? The FSDO has a job to do, and they have as many rules and guidelines to follow as we do, if not more. Do whatever you can to help them do their job as efficiently as possible. If you are in compliance, that will make their job easier.

Anything else? The AEA does not take its mission lightly. The idea of an AEA Ambassador Program proves that the AEA is dedicated to serving both the federal offices and its members in the safest manner possible. I salute the AEA team for their continued foresight and dedication.

Gary Goodpaster, chief of maintenance, The Kroger Co. Cincinnati FSDO Why did you become involved with the AEA Ambassador Program? I saw a need for a good communication process. It was something that I could do to expand the knowledge base to the FAA, because they were unaware of the things the AEA had been doing. What do you feel is the biggest benefit of the program? I asked the AEA to send a subscription of Avionics News magazine to the FSDO office, and that was a big thing. The FAA does its job well, but they are not aware of everything going on in their area. How has your FSDO accepted the program? Very well. I do have a limited repair station for The Kroger Co., so they do come out and audit me on a scheduled basis. But, the Ambassador Program keeps me more in line with the other programs offered and forces me to interact with the FAA more often. This is a different avenue than I’ve taken with them in the past, and it has increased my communications with them and worked out very well for our company and the FAA.

Robert Randall, central regional sales manager, universal Avionics Oklahoma City and Wichita FSDO Why did you become involved with the Ambassador Program? I feel like the idea of having the FAA closely involved with the AEA’s mission, along with the AEA member businesses, is a very important handshake between us all. What do you feel is the biggest benefit of the program? The biggest benefit is closer two-way communications between the FAA and the AEA and its members on existing products and future products in the market. The FAA is operating on a very tight operational budget, and this can limit its exposure to what is going on in the marketplace. How has the program been accepted by your local FSDO manager? I have both the Oklahoma City FSDO and the Wichita FSDO. Both offices have welcomed this program with a great positive attitude, and it was evident when each office sent representatives to the AEA Central Regional Meeting in Kansas City.
