Advice for First-Time Trade Show Attendees
alk to anyone who has attended a trade show, and the first bit of advice always offered is wear comfortable shoes. If you have never been inside one of the mega convention centers, imagine the largest airline terminal you have seen and quadruple it. Now, imagine walking on its concrete floors, without rest, for three days straight. But, there’s a hitch. You can’t really wear comfortable shoes. next best thing? Wear shoes that are broken in. Never wear a brand-new pair of shoes to a trade show. By the end of the first day, your feet will swell, and your shoes will be rubbing blisters. I’ve seen plenty of women during the years carrying their classy high heels while limping out of a convention center at the end of the day. A friend of mine makes this confession: he wears socks that double as support hose at trade shows. “Yes, just like my grandfather used to wear,” he said. Another tip is to bring several pairs of shoes to give your feet a change of pace, and bring those running shoes in case you dine informally at night. Many trade show veterans have perfected the art of gel inserts and arch supports for their shoes. Ask those folks their secrets. sonal comments or company information. If you drink alcohol, give yourself a two-drink maximum for the evening. The next morning, no one ever regretted drinking less than they wanted. Your trade show experience begins when you are sitting in the gate waiting for the flight, riding in the hotel airport van or checking into the hotel.
