made several announcements involving partnerships with companies like Avidyne Corp., even as it rolled out its new Evolution Backup Display. For starters, Aspen’s Connected Panel products interface portable electric devices, like the iPad, to the aircraft’s installed avionics. Expected to be certified and released in the second quarter, Connected Panel will provide flight planning crossfill capabilities between connected enabled applications running on the iPad and the Garmin GNS WAAS navigators. According to the company, it will offer tighter integration and functionality with the KSN 770. It said the power of Connected Panel is in its partner program with extensive participation from well-known avionics manufacturers, data providers and application developers. In addition, Aspen and Avidyne had been hinting at a close working relationship for weeks leading up to this year’s show. It was worth the wait. The two companies brought with them news of their efforts to marry Aspen’s Evolution Pro primary flight display with Avidyne’s DFC90 digital autopilot. Although the FAA hadn’t blessed that union with certification paperwork by the time the show began, approval is expected soon. Meanwhile, Aspen said its new Evolution Backup Display provides all of the capabilities expected of a primary, integrated digital EFIS system but as a backup instrument. Capabilities include attitude, altitude and airspeed tapes, slaved directional gyro, rate of turn, slip/skid, vertical speed indicator and GPS flight plan overlay. Additional optional features can include horizontal situation indicator, lateral and vertical guidance indicators, autopilot coupling, GPS steering, and support for display of traffic, datalink weather and Stormscope data. Based on the company’s Evolution Flight Display platform, Aspen’s backup display significantly enhances safety and situational awareness beyond that provided by traditional steam or electronic backup gauges. All versions of the Evolution Backup Display come standard with a large capacity emergency power source that provides a minimum of two hours of continuous operation following loss of ship power. The Evolution Backup Display can eliminate the need to install and maintain traditional “steam” gauges when retrofitting older aircraft. “Pilots flying fully integrated glass panel systems can now complete the digital transformation of their

panel,” said Brad Hayden, Aspen’s vice president of marketing. “If the primary EFIS in the cockpit fails, transitioning to a glass backup display interface, rather than a mechanical instrument, will be much more intuitive and less stressful to the pilot in an emergency situation. In many applications, installation of an Evolution Backup Display would also permit continued autopilot coupling following a failure of the primary EFIS system.” To learn more, visit www.aspenavionics.com. ATEQ-OMICRON ATEQ-Omicron of Livonia, Mich., introduced its new ADSE643, a compact, lightweight and inexpensive air data test set. According to the company, the tester will let the operator perform the calibration and leak testing of any type of aircraft with operational limits of 50,000 feet, 650 knots and rate of climb of up to 6,000 feet per minute, allowing technicians to perform tests on virtually all types of aircraft, from the smallest piston single to the biggest commercial airliner. The company’s latest ATEQoffering is designed with Omicron’s flexibility in mind and ofADSE643 fers a light, 12-pound weight plus battery capacity. Two batteries with six hours of endurance are supplied with the unit, enabling a full 12 hours of autonomy on the shop floor, in the field or on the flight line. Additionally, the tester allows manual pressure and/or vacuum generation but provides for using an automatic, optional pump. The ADSE643 will be supplied with a carrying bag and a rugged case for making the tests even more convenient and secure. The ADSE643 also introduced the “TAPT,” or Thermoregulated ATEQ-Omicron Pressure Transducer, a specially developed sensor providing a .01 percent RVSM accuracy in the 10-degree to 122-degree Fahrenheit temperature range.
