viation had always intrigued Jenna Kramer, but it never crossed her mind for a career. That is, until she met Paula Derks and the Aircraft Electronics Association. Kramer grew up in Lee’s Summit, Mo., and describes herself as “the very social child who was always in trouble for talking in class.” She graduated from high school in 2006, and enrolled in the University of Central Missouri. Although she is a huge fan of the Kansas City Royals, she resisted studying public relations for sports, as she didn’t want to get burned out and wanted to enjoy a baseball game. During her final semester, a class project was to create a public relations campaign for the AEA. “Since Paula was a UCM public relations alumna, our professor approached her to see if we could work on a project involving the AEA for our capstone course,” Kramer said. She served as the liaison for the group and stayed connected with Derks and Linda Adams via email to help guide her group’s course of action. Her group attended the AEA Central Regional Meeting in 2010 to survey the members and get a better understanding of the AEA. The project took several months to complete, and Kramer believes they came up with a great presentation. At the end of it, Kramer told Derks she was available if they needed any help for the upcoming convention, and Derks took her up on the offer. In fact, she graduated from college Dec. 10, 2010, and started Administrative Assistant, work at the AEA Jan. 4, 2011. As for the little down time, Kramer said, Copy Editor “I am extremely fortunate to be working at a place like this right out of school.” She was hired as an intern, and after a few months of proving herself, her status changed to full-time employee. Today, Kramer is the administrative assistant and copy editor. Among her duties are compiling the “What’s New” section for Avionics News, managing the circulation list, and copy editing and proofreading articles for the magazine, Pilot’s Guide to Avionics and other AEA materials. She’s also in charge of producing the association’s e-newsletter, AEA Wired. “I’m in a position where if anyone needs help, they know they can count on me,” Kramer said. “I am able to gain knowledge from every department to better assist members and to help people inquiring about the AEA or the industry.” You’d be hard-pressed to find a happier employee. “No one I know likes their job as much as I do,” Kramer said. “In this office, everyone gets along very well and respects each other.” In fact, the only thing she didn’t like about her job was her daily commute, but now she’s moved less than a mile away. In short, she said, “It is a great feeling to be excited to go to work each day.” She has just completed her second trimester of her MBA studies at Avila University – ending with a
