for their Federal Communications Commission general radio and telephone license examination. With onsite proctors, students can take the exam and graduate with both their associate degree and FCC license as well as their NCATT certification.

Expanding to Meet Industry Needs To help meet the increasing demand for well-qualified aviation professionals, the college plans to expand again. This fall, GTCC breaks ground on a new $10 million aviation training facility, adding nearly 50 percent more space to the aviation program’s existing square footage. The 41,000-square-foot building will house pilot ground school, the air traffic control program and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University classes. GTCC and Embry-Riddle have an agreement that allows aviation students to continue their education and extend their associate degree into a bachelor’s and/ or master’s degree from EmbryRiddle without leaving the GTCC campus. The new building will be located near the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C., and should be completed by spring 2014. The expansion makes more room for the school’s avionics and aviation maintenance classes in the other two buildings. The college’s existing T.H. Davis Aviation Center (AV1), located on the airport with ramp access, opened in 1989 with 35,000 square feet for aviation maintenance and avionics studies. The school’s AV2 building,
