Howard was shutting down, he explained, “and I needed a job.” He found it in Houston. In the early 1960s, Marshall and a partner formed Jetronics, a shop that didn’t survive the partners going their separate ways. Temple Electronics started as a one-man shop in 1973, “but it wasn’t very long before I had two, and then we built from there,” Marshall said. “I had quite a number of pilots – customers – all through my days in Houston that I’d built a rapport with. It’s not like I started new… I just continued to do it.” Like father like son, Jimmy said he got started in the business because “my dad made me work there every summer,” starting when he was 13 and the shop was 3 years old. His duties grew with time. He started by sweeping floors and marking wires. Just after he got his driver’s license, he started doing installations.
