General Aviation Awards Program
is the owner and general manager of Spirit Avionics Ltd. at Port Columbus International Airport. He has spent 22 years engineering, installing, certifying and maintaining aircraft electrical and avionics systems. Rick volunteers his time and experience on several boards and committees, including the AEA board of directors. He represents the Columbus FSDO area and the FAA’s Great Lakes Region. 2012 Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) of the Year HOBART CALEB “HOBIE” TOMLINSON, MCFI Huntington, Vt. Tomlinson is a fivetime Master CFI and is an independent flight instructor, Part 135 check airman and pilot examiner (DPE). He serves as an EAA Flight Advisor, a mentor to flight instructors and a FAASTeam lead representative. Additionally, he writes a monthly safety newsletter. He represents the Portland, Maine, FSDO area and the FAA’s Eastern Region. 2012 FAASTeam Representative of the Year JEANNÉ CAROLE WILLERTH, CFI Lee’s Summit, Mo. Willerth is a flight instructor with Air Associates of Kansas at Johnson County Executive airport and a lead representative in the FAASTeam program. She has been an active member of the local airport board of commissioners, the NinetyNines and the Missouri Pilots Association. She represents the Kansas City FSDO area and the FAA’s Central Region. professionals in the fields of flight instruction, aviation maintenance, avionics and flight safety for their important contributions to the aviation community. This awards program is a partnership and a cooperative effort between more than a dozen sponsoring organizations from the aviation industry and the Federal Aviation Administration. The selection process begins with local offices. Panels of aviation professionals from within those four fields then select national winners from the pool of regional winners. The FAA administrator annually has presented the national awards in July during a “Theater in the Woods” program at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis. Recipients of the 2012 National General Aviation Awards: ► 2012 Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) MARVIN HORNBOSTEL, A&P / IA Junction City, Kan. Hornbostel is an A&P mechanic with inspection authorization for his company, Raven Aero Service, where he has been maintaining and restoring airplanes for more than 50 years. In 2011, he received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. He mentors high school students, college students, U.S. Army technicians and Young Eagles participants.
