Bendix/King by Honeywell’s Rebuilding Effort Promises a Revamped Product Line

n early April 2012, Bendix/King established independent business operations in Albuquerque, N.M., functioning within Honeywell. The transition appears well underway for the company, and by all appearances and input, the changes in the wind hold more positives than negatives for the venerable maker of general aviation avionics. The change is deeper than mere appearances – and far greater than a simple relocation of key business elements to a new locale. Those new business operations stem from Honeywell’s decision to morph Bendix/King into a strategic business enterprise complete with its own budget, profit and loss accounting, engineering line and the latitude to make and act on its own decisions in support of its own developmental, marketing and production needs. “To truly operate as an independent organization, we decided to move to a separate location,” explained Roger Jollis, the new vice president of marketing at Bendix/King. “And that change wasn’t a negative thing. About 80 percent of our business is discretionary sales to Part 23 and Part 27 as a consumer business. To continue to do this and succeed, we had to become more nimble and able to react more quickly than was possible under the Bendix/King by Honeywell’s new myWingMan Navigator app old structure.”
