“We also have technologists assigned to each program plus
one hangar technologist,” Kincaid said. “Their job includes
shop supervision of the students while they are in the lab,
shop or hangar. The technologists also procure instructional
supplies, prepare for practical tasks, as well as maintain and
repair equipment and training aircraft.”
The school also provides helicopter flight training as well
as fixed-wing flight training for indigenous First Nations students – the only program of its kind in Canada. Canadore’s
fixed-wing flight training program is in collaboration with
First Nations Technical Institute in Deseronto, Ontario.
The helicopter flight program operates in partnership with
Essential Helicopters Ltd. out of Canadore’s aviation campus. The program’s aircraft include two Bell 206 BIII, one
Robinson R-44 and two Robinson R-22 helicopters as part
of the flight training program. Canadore’s faculty provides
basic maintenance and avionics training as part of the Essential Helicopters flight training curriculum.
“The avionics maintenance and aircraft maintenance programs are two-year programs that include more than 1,800
hours of training,” said Kincaid, who teaches third and fourth
semesters in the avionics maintenance program. “Aircraft
structural repair is a one-year program with more than 1,000
hours of training.”
Canadore College draws students mainly from eastern Canada; however, the school continues to attract students from all
