of Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics

hen it comes to ﬂying, to some it’s a hobby, but to others it is a passion and way of life. Recently, Jenna Kramer, Avionics News copy editor, spoke with Ryan Reid of Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics to learn about his love for ﬂight.
What is your favorite or most memorable moment as a pilot?

W

I'll never forget meeting an older gentleman during an air show at the Extra static display at EAA AirVenture in 2008. He was sitting in a chair and asked if I had any questions. I started asking questions about the Extra 300, its smoke system and aerobatic characteristics. The man seemed very knowledgeable and I assumed he worked for Extra, which I came to ﬁnd out, he didn't. As we started talking about aerobatics, maneuvers, ﬂight controls, instructing and aviation in general, he began to fuel my love for aerobatics and understanding of unusual attitude recovery. Interested in learning about how I could break into the aerobatic community, he told me to visit the International Aerobatic Club and tell them Wayne sent you. After an Internet search on my phone, I realized I had just sat down and had a free ground school session with Wayne Handley, one of the highest honored pilots in the aerobatic community. I occasionally still see Wayne at AirVenture. He’ll sneak up to give me a little nudge to say hello.
How long have you been ying?

I have been ﬂying for 10 years. I started ﬂying when I was 18 years old. I went through ﬂight school and graduated from Kansas State University at Salina. Then, I instructed ﬂight students for the university for a couple of years.
