Mid-Canada Mod Center, a Universal Avionics authorized dealer, performed the upgrade at its Toronto, Canada, Pearson International Airport location. After careful evaluation of the available systems, I selected the Universal UNS-1Ew with an LP/LPV monitor, because of the system's combination of powerful integrated features, ease of use and the extraordinary support provided by the company. Universal's superb after-sales and technical support has been essential for many of AdvAero’s past program successes, and consequently those of its very demanding customers.” With Universal Avionics’ WAAS/SBAS-capable UNS-1Ew FMS, the operator has access to RNAV approach types, including those with RNAV (GNSS) LPV level of service. With minimum descent altitudes as low as 200 feet, with half-mile visibility, this approach type improves safety and accessibility to airports that have much higher approach minima or no other published approach type at all. En route maneuvering features include a dedicated directto function, FMS heading function, PVOR tracking, full-featured vertical navigation and user-defined holding patterns. Trig Avionics/Accord Technology

TRIG AVIONICS announced a partner product compatible with its TT31 and TT22 transponders. The FAA recently approved a TT31 Trig transponder in conjunction with an ACCORD TECHNOLOGY’S NexNav Mini GPS unit. This follows a successful flight test program carried out above the skies of Denver, Colo., by Peregrine. This new addition to Trig’s STC program allows operators to fit a Trig TT31 transponder for a 2020 ADS-B “mandate-ready” solution. “We design and manufacture transponders that are smart, affordable and future-proof,” said ANDY DAVIS, Trig’s CEO. “An investment in ADS-B technology is not cheap, but we can offer certified equipment that’s simple to install and provides firstclass performance and value.” The FAA requires individual installations in each aircraft type to be flight tested, and these initial flight tests were conducted in a Mooney.
