CHICAGO JET GROUP recently announced the Dassault
Falcon 900 FANS-1A+ / CPDLC supplemental type certification
will be the second aircraft to be certified with a retrofit installation
of an Air Traffic Services FANS 1A+ / CPDLC data link system
over Iridium by the company, and is provisioned for the
upcoming EUROCONTROL Link 2000+ Program mandates.
Chicago Jet Group integrated Universal Avionics' UniLink
UL-801 communications management unit with VHF VDL
Mode 2 receiver, interfaced with Universal's SBAS-flight
management systems and CVR- 120A cockpit voice recorder
to enable required FANS data link message recording.
Chicago Jet Group will utilize International Communications
Group (ICG) NxtLink ICS-220A Iridium Satcom for Iridium
system AOC and ATC data link messaging and communications.
The Dassault Falcon 900 will be the second airframe to
receive FANS retrofit certification with CJG. Certification
is expected early first quarter of 2014. Several additional
airframes are currently in-process at Chicago Jet Group for
FANS retrofit installation and certification.

ROCKWELL COLLINS recently unveiled its EVS-3000, an
enhanced vision system for the commercial aviation market
segment.
The new system, available on both head-up and headdown displays, includes a proprietary multispectral EVS
sensor, developed by Rockwell Collins, that significantly
improves detection of outside terrain, hazards and obstacles
in low-visibility conditions caused by weather phenomena,
such as fog. The EVS-3000 also brings the industry-first
ability to fully detect LED lighting, which is increasingly
utilized by airports as a runway lighting solution.
"We're bringing unprecedented accuracy in sensing what's
ahead during critical phases of flight," said CRAIG OLSON,
senior director, head-up guidance systems for Rockwell
Collins.
Rockwell Collins' EVS-3000 does not require a traditional
built-in cooling system, which significantly reduces weight,
lowers aircraft power consumption and improves system
performance longevity.

UNIVERSITY
SALINA to test
certification standards for small
unmanned aircraft systems, or UAS.
Under a memorandum of agreement
signed by the university and the
FAA on Aug. 29, K-State Salina will
validate industry standards for small
unmanned aircraft systems - systems
typically weighing 55 pounds or less
- set by the F38 technical committee
of ASTM International. K-State Salina
will use its own unmanned aircraft

for airworthiness certification.
Formerly known as the American
Society for Testing and Materials,
ASTM International is a globally
recognized leader in the development
and delivery of international voluntary
consensus standards.
"Determining the airworthiness of
small UAS is a critical stepping-stone
to commercial flight operations of
UAS, and K-State is thrilled to be
leading the way in certifying today's
unmanned systems for tomorrow's

Blanks said the agreement between
K-State and the FAA is the first of its
kind, and the project will be a test to
determine where the F38 standards
need further development or may be
overly prescriptive.
The university also will work closely
