The main menu comes in the form of the bookmarks

As you can see, the
major categories include:
• General guidance
and information.
• Normal, utility, acrobatic & commuter
category airplanes.
• Transport category
airplanes.
• Normal & transport
category rotorcraft.
• Engines, propellers
& APUs.
• A special area
called specific
system guidance &
information.
Each of the three
aircraft sections
have the same seven
categories, although
for avionics and
systems, the
requirements for
field approvals
are all slightly
different. For
example, a simple
single-axis autopilot
system with limited
control authority
that is not required
for operation of the airplane, such as a simple wing
leveler system for installation in a normal category
airplane requires engineering assistance, whereas
autopilot, flight guidance systems and automatic flight
control systems or flight directors requires an STC in a
transport category airplane.
The specific system
guidance & information
area is a nice feature. This
is where you will find
unique system guidance
that currently seems geared
toward general avionics
system information, such
as ADS-B, electronic HIS,
NVG systems and GPS/
WAAS.
Once you navigate
within these documents,
you will find additional
links to memos and
instructions that amplify and clarify the
field installation criterion, such as this one
regarding ADS-B installations.
The information in the job aid can be
changed and updates on a regular basis
without an excessive administrative burden
on the FAA. Therefore, it is essential
that anyone involved in the maintenance,
repair or alteration of aircraft or systems
reviews this job aid on a regular basis. It
also is important that anyone who notices
a change within the document to notify the
AEA as soon as possible. We will monitor
this job aid, but we fully expect edits to be
made that will not immediately be known
to AEA staff.
