W

hile many people in the general aviation industry
pride themselves on having more than 3,000 hours
in a Cessna or Beechcraft, there is one who has
accomplished that flight time in an aircraft with a little more
power. Recently, Jenna Kramer, Avionics News copy editor,
spoke with Bill Van Zwoll of Lexavia Integrated Systems to learn
about his need for speed.
What is your favorite or most memorable moment as a pilot?

The moment I will never forget is my ﬁrst aircraft carrier
landing. I was ﬂying the T-2 Buckeye from Cecil ﬁeld in
Jacksonville, Fla. It was a beautiful, clear, blue Florida morning
when my ﬂight of four aircraft lifted oﬀ. With nerves and tension
running high, the ﬂight out to ﬁnd the USS Forestall seemed like
it was just a few minutes. Picking up the aircraft carrier visually
struck a sudden spike of fear realizing I was about to attempt to
touchdown on a moving ship and that ship looked ridiculously
small. The formation tightened as the call came from the ship to
enter the pattern. Total focus was now on maintaining position
in formation, not hitting each other and looking good as you
enter the pattern. All of the constant practice and training
kicked in as the formation broke at the bow and each aircraft
transitioned to land. I rolled onto short ﬁnal in a turning descent
making constant right for line-up adjustment to keep up with the
