Cobham's HeliSAS stability augmentation system
COBHAM has been granted supplemental type certificate approval for its HeliSAS stability augmentation
system and autopilot by the European Aviation Safety
Agency. The STC allows installation of HeliSAS on a significant new range of Eurocopter helicopters, including:
AS350B, B1, B2, B3, BA, D and EC130B4 models across
the European Union.
With more than 100 systems installed in the U.S.,
Australia and South America, HeliSAS is making safer
rotorcraft flight possible around the world, according to
the company. The two-axis, attitude hold/attitude command flight control system significantly reduces pilot
workload and allows pilots to perform many cockpit functions hands-free. HeliSAS’ SAS enhances flight stability
by providing precise control during all modes of flight,
regardless of wind conditions or aircraft center of gravity.

Cobham’s digital audio control system has been
selected for Life Flight Network’s 15 new AgustaWestland
AW119Kx single-engine helicopters. Life Flight Network
of Aurora, Ore., – one of the world’s leading air medical
transport providers – is the first customer for the AW119Kx
and will be taking delivery of the aircraft in 2013.
DACS is forward-fit on more medium and heavy helicopters than any other digital audio system in the world,
including AgustaWestland’s very successful GrandNew.
Cobham Aerospace Communication’s DACS distributes
and controls aircraft audio to/from all transceivers, receivers and audio warning systems. It’s compact and lightweight, maximizing space utilization and enhancing payload capacity. The system is flexible and configurable to
specific customer specifications utilizing DACS software.

AVIONYX, S.A., a nearshore engineering services
provider to the North American safety-critical avionics and
embedded products markets, announced PETER LYONS
was appointed as the company’s president. Lyons was most
recently vice president of product management at Aspen
Avionics, an innovative startup avionics company that he
co-founded in 2004. Lyons will
report to Avionyx founder and CEO
Larry Allgood, and will assume
responsibility for all company
operations, focused on new business
development.

military navigator, brings diverse

business operations, program/product
management, flight test and certification to the Avionyx team.
During his 25-year aerospace career, he has experience in
technical and business leadership positions at CAE Aviation,
Rockwell Collins, Eclipse Aviation and Aspen Avionics.
In 2004, Lyons co-founded Aspen Avionics, creating the
market for retrofit electronic flight displays for light general
aviation. As founding CEO and subsequently as vice
president of product management, Lyons was instrumental in
developing and certifying the company’s innovative products,
and in growing the company into the industry-leading brand it
is today.
