flight around the world aboard Voyager, the airplane
designed by Rutan’s brother, Burt. His appearance,
sponsored by Universal Avionics Systems Corp.,
included a photograph of the Voyager’s instrument
panel, featuring period King Silver Crown avionics,
and was one of the high points of the week for many
convention attendees.
So, What’s Working For You?
“Despite continuing economic and regulatory
challenges, this week in Vegas AEA members shared
‘what’s working’ within their own environment and
pledged to take back home with them the knowledge
gained to help grow their businesses,” Derks said at
the event’s conclusion.
And that’s why the association exists, and why it
holds its annual convention, along with numerous

regional and international meetings throughout the year.
As we noted at the beginning of this article, if you
didn’t make the trek to Las Vegas this year, you missed
out. But soon you’ll have another chance: The 2014
edition of the AEA’s International Convention & Trade
Show is set for Nashville, Tenn, March 12-15. As
always, now is a good time to put it on your calendar
and make plans to attend.
Until then, let’s let Derks sum up the convention
and her admonitions to the industry: “Ladies and
gentlemen, there is still so much work to be done as
our economies slowly improve,” she said in concluding
her State of the Association remarks. “From my
conversations with all of you, I think there is a little
bit of light at the end of that long, long tunnel. I invite
each and every one of you today to roll up your sleeves
and let’s get to work. Take home what you learned
this week in all the training sessions and classes and
in the exhibit hall. And don’t forget to ask your fellow
member... ‘What’s working for you?’”
