technicians instant access to updated
information on maintenance
requirements for a specific aircraft.

“Inside the app, we have a bunch of separate modules or
subapplications that provide different functions for the maintenance or operations side of a flight department. The maintenance tracking side is designed to enable technicians to quickly access information and easily report on both scheduled and
unscheduled maintenance.”
Another similar offering is CAMP Systems International’s
iCAMP app, which is a mobile version of the company’s subscription-based CAMP Maintenance Management System.
“It is available for Apple iOS and Android smartphones and
tablet devices,” stated John Nelson, senior vice president of
CAMP Systems. “It provides a link between the maintenance
technician and the CAMP maintenance analyst assigned to
that particular aircraft.
“The app also provides the ability to monitor the maintenance status of the aircraft, run a list of pending maintenance
events and also remotely access the technical information to
conduct maintenance and troubleshooting. It also allows the
ability to document the compliance information in the hangar
and provides the ability to instantly submit the maintenance
data for review and update by the CAMP maintenance analyst.”
As Nelson pointed out, one of the major benefits of these
mobile maintenance apps is the ability to link task cards with
the actual instructions from the aircraft’s maintenance man-
ual. No matter where the technician is, as long as they have
access to the Internet, they have the ability to get the real-time
troubleshooting and maintenance task instructions they need.

One of the biggest problems facing any aircraft technician
is the ongoing issue of a pilot reporting a squawk, but doesn’t
give the details on what exactly were the conditions that preceded the incident.
Thanks to the Discrepancy Tracking capability found in
Flightdocs’ new app, this is going to become much less of
a time-waster in the future. “A pilot can not only report discrepancies directly on the iPad, he can also use the camera to
take a photo of the panel or display so the technician can see
exactly what is going on,” Heine said. “They can attach the
photo to the discrepancy report and email it directly to the
technicians back at their home base. The technician will know
exactly what the situation was.”
