and Denver. We also have satellite
sales managers located around
the world to service our international customers. We are pretty
spread out. The atmosphere in
Newport News is one of camaraderie. The company provides yoga
classes on Tuesdays; we have an
exercise room, pingpong, foosball
and a golf net for practicing your
swing. Employees are encouraged to take a break and free up
creative energy as long as we’re
getting the job done. We have a
low turnover rate since the atmosphere is so great.

What do you do when you
are not working?

I took up acting quite recently.
It’s a funny story and related
to work a bit. The ICG building in Newport News has a
100,000-square foot warehouse
space in the back that a production company used as a soundstage for filming a movie. We
allowed them to use the space not
expecting what might be involved
– it was a huge production. While
they were building the sets, I submitted my picture and a resume
to be included in the filming of
the movie. A few weeks later, they
asked me to come for a fitting and
read some lines, and they ended
up casting me in the feature film.
I spent two weeks on set. During
the filming, I picked up an agent
that finds other acting jobs for me.
Since then, I’ve done several local
television commercials and epi-

sodes for two national TV series.

What are the shows?

One was for Animal Planet called
“Fatal Attractions,” where I played
the lead role in a dramatization.
The other was “Wicked Attraction,”
where I played a detective. I was
involved in theater in high school,
and I’m generally an outgoing guy;
so acting is a natural fit.

Are you married?

I married Meghan, my high
school sweetheart, in 2005. We
both love boating and being
around the water, so living in
Newport News is a perfect fit.
We love to be with friends and
spend days in the sun and the
beach. She works for the Virginia
Department of Corrections as an
environmental scientist; she is the
air compliance manager for the
state’s prison facilities. Meghan
also has acted in several commercials and TV shows, plus done
some print modeling. She picked
up the same agent I have.

Other than acting,
do you have hobbies?

I grew up sailing every weekend
during the summer months; we’d
be on my father’s sailboat, Bravura,
out of Maryland on the Chesapeake
Bay. That developed my love for
the water, and we still go sailing
with him whenever we can. My
wife and I have a small powerboat
just to be in and around the water.
In the winter, we like to go snow
skiing. There’s some decent ski-

ing on the East Coast. I also brew
beer. My brother, Tim, got me
involved with that, and we usually
have a batch to enjoy and share
with friends. The process is fun.
It’s not something that happens
overnight; it’s actually a lot of
work, and you need patience to let
the beer do its thing. Meghan also
loves to cook, and I really enjoy
eating her culinary creations.

What do you see
for the future?

If we want to stay competitive,
we must keep up with technology.
Customers have grown to expect
the same user experience with
their technology in the aircraft as
they receive on the ground, and
it’s our job to make the transition from the office to the sky as
seamless as possible. ICG’s NxtLink
products provide voice and data
solutions for the cockpit and the
cabin. Our newest product, the
eRouter, is opening new doors in
the data routing arena for us. ICG
also is leading the industry with
its FOI (FANS-1/A over Iridium)
solutions for emerging flight deck
datalink requirements to include
FANS-1/A messaging. Between our
state-of-the-art production facilities, in-house engineering, product
support and integration teams,
everything is in place to keep us at
the forefront of technology. It’s an
exciting time for us. q
