aircraft.
Other sections provide the latest information on
ADS-B ground station deployment. This deployment
surpassed the 500-station milestone in 2013. Making use
of GPS and WAAS technology, ADS-B is the NextGen
surveillance network for the national airspace system. In
2013, the program is looking toward continuing aircraft
equipage. Aircraft flying in designated airspace must be
equipped with ADS-B Out by Jan. 1, 2020. To support
ADS-B Out, the aircraft must have a GPS receiver as
the position source and a datalink transmitter to actually
send the ADS-B data.

NextGen Performance Snapshots (NPS)
The NextGen Implementation Plan is one of two
primary outreach and reporting vehicles for updating
the aviation community on the FAA’s progress, while
presenting an overview of the FAA’s plans for the future.
The other is the NextGen performance snapshots, a website
available at www.faa.gov/nextgen/snapshots and launched
last year to track NextGen performance metrics and post
stories of recent NextGen achievements on a regular basis.
NextGen Website
The FAA’s NextGen website, located at
www.faa.gov/nextgen, lists a variety of resources in
addition to the current and back issues of the NextGen
Implementation Plan, including:
• NextGen home page – brief articles, videos of
executive interviews, animations, interactive flash
maps and infographics.
• NextGen for airports – outlines NextGen benefits

for airports and has a downloadable brochure
with an online-only section of frequently asked
questions about NextGen and airports.
Quicklinks – one-click access to documents,
including the Aviation Safety NextGen Workplan
and the Airspace and Procedures Plan.

topics, such as PBN and ADS-B.

• FAA NextGen eNews – A compilation of NextGenrelated news items from the past month, including
coverage of operations, safety, security, capacity,
efficiency and environment. The eNews provides
an update on what’s new in NextGen, such as the
latest ADS-B service volumes and new WAAS
LPV procedures. The publication is for the
