AEA Announces Scholarship
Winners for 2013-14

During the official opening of the 56th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nev., the Aircraft Electronics Association’s
Educational Foundation announced the names of 26 individuals who were awarded individual scholarships worth more than $125,000 for the
2013-14 academic year. The scholarship recipients are students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as students from
AEA member companies. Individuals interested in one or more of these scholarships may download an application after Oct. 1, 2013, by visiting
www.aea.net/scholarship. The deadline to submit applications for the 2014-15 academic year is Feb. 15, 2014.

Aircell Scholarship

Heather Behrent of Oshkosh, Wis., just completed her second year at Fox Valley Technical
College with a near perfect 3.9 grade point
average. She recently graduated from the avionics program and plans to start a career at a
general aviation business, such as Gulfstream in
Appleton, Wis. While employed, Behrent plans
to pursue her airframe and powerplant license by attending
Fox Valley’s program. Ultimately, she envisions earning her
inspection authorization and becoming an inspector, possibly at
an airline.
Behrent has completed her NCATT and general radio
operators license in the last year.

David Arver Memorial Scholarship

Dennis Muli of Kalamazoo, Mich., currently attends Western Michigan University in
the aviation maintenance technology program. After graduation, he plans to earn
his airframe and powerplant license. He
hopes to intern with Southwest Airlines,
while working towards his FCC license and looking
more into avionics. His future career plans include
working for UPS, Emirates and eventually landing back
in Kenya to open his own MRO shop.

Bud Glover Memorial Scholarship

Malorie Stafford of Dacula, Ga., plans to finish her degree in aviation maintenance from
Middle Georgia State College and become an
airframe and powerplant technician (A&P).
Once employed with a commercial airline or
local aviation service company, she plans to
return to night school to add her avionics license and eventually become the lead technician working on communication systems.
Stafford volunteers her time at the Museum of Aviation
in Warner Robins, Ga., is a member of Women in Aviation,
International and also made the dean’s list.

Isaac Anderson of Evergreen, Colo., is
enrolled in the aviation mechanics curriculum at Emily Griffith Opportunity School.
He has pursued aviation, aircraft maintenance, engineering and science through
activities in school, at home and in the
community since he was very young. A student pilot,
Anderson was the Tuskegee Phoenix Ace Academy
national top graduate in 2011. He has won numerous
awards for his design and build of a hydrogen engine
and energy system.
Anderson enjoys sharing his excitement for vehicular
systems and mechanics by teaching classes to elementary and middle school students on the topics of robotics,
movie making and game making.

Chuck Peacock Memorial Scholarship

Michael Peer of Oshkosh, Wis., graduated from
Fox Valley Technical College in 2011, with an
airframe and powerplant mechanic’s license and
an associate degree in aircraft electronics. He
began working full time for the Experimental
Aircraft Association as an aircraft maintenance
technician after graduation.
Peer is currently attending the University of WisconsinOshkosh in pursuit of his bachelor’s degree in aviation
management. He also has his private pilot’s license with highperformance and tail wheel endorsements.

Dutch & Ginger Arver Memorial Scholarship

Kyle M. Johnson of Lakeland, Fla., is enrolled
in the aviation maintenance science program
at Embry-Riddle with a flight area of
concentration.
After graduation, Johnson plans to pursue
a maintenance management career with an
aviation OEM, commercial airline, flight carrier, corporate
air travel department or with the U.S. Coast Guard.
