are willing to take on and tackle new
challenges. It's an industry that is
ready to rally and defend itself against
the unjustified and uneducated
comments regarding the services and
overall value we provide.
What are some of the challenges
facing the industry today?
The changing regulations, the
inconsistency with which the
regulations are interpreted, the
timeliness of the approval process

- these all have a direct impact
on not only the profit margins of
the avionics shops and equipment
providers but also, in the end,
the direct operating costs for the
aircraft owner/operator.
Do you see any possible pathways
to solving some of these issues?
We need to continue to educate
the Federal Aviation Administration
and find partnerships with the FAA
wherein they see a clearer need
to be part of the solution. We
also need to continue to educate
the FAA on how the delays in the
approval process and the constantly

changing regulations impact our
costs as well as our businesses.
We need to give them a better
understanding about the relatively
thin profit margins we are working
with, and how any additional
regulatory costs added to "a
program" unduly drive up costs, and
force us to pass on these increased
costs to the end users and aircraft
owners/operators.
What do you like
most about the AEA?
The AEA presents a great platform
or forum for business-to-business
and face-to-face interaction that is
truly unique in our industry. I love
the fact that the AEA membership
is comprised of a great mix of both
large and small companies that
cover all facets of our industry,
from equipment manufacturers to
installation, repair and overhaul
facilities to engineering and
certification groups. The AEA's passion
for education, its professional and
technical training for members,
and its championing the cause for
continued education and training
should be embraced as a core
business competency for all members.
How have you benefited from the
AEA, personally and professionally?
The AEA is a great forum to be
introduced to new people, new
products and new businesses.
I have also benefited from the
great educational and training
opportunities, and the wealth of
knowledge that is presented by
AEA employees, members and key
industry partners.
