t wasn't long ago, when you wanted to talk cabin connectivity, you couldn't
get too far south of a super mid-size business jet before you ran out of
equipage options and money.
The necessary equipment was too big and expensive, and the services to
connect you to the rest of the world were just too costly to make even basic
capabilities viable options for smaller jets and turboprops - let alone any cabin
piston airplanes.
But thankfully for owners of these legions of smaller aircraft, and for the
avionics shops that support them, those days are gone.
Now, thanks to the efforts of forward-looking avionics original equipment
manufacturers and service providers, aircraft owners can choose from a growing
assortment of cabin on- and off-aircraft connectivity and entertainment options so
passengers can stay "infotained" while traveling.
"In-cabin communications for light airplanes aren't what they used to be,
and that's a good thing," stated Tom Myers, director of marketing for Gogo
Business Aviation. "Many aircraft and avionics shop owners don't realize
what is possible and practical today. Today, lighter airplanes can have virtually
everything the big iron can."
