"The	whole	idea	of	a	system	like	this	is	to	declutter	the	
aircraft	cabin	and	remove	all	the	excess	weight	and	installation	
considerations	of	mounted	displays	and	their	hardware,"	
sated	Eric	Delash,	regional	sales	manager	for	Flight	Display	
Systems.	"Today,	everybody	carries	their	own	personal	display	
in	the	form	of	an	iPad,	smartphone	or	laptop	computer.	
JetJukebox	and	JetStreamer	are	wireless	media	streaming	
devices	that	allow	up	to	eight	passengers	to	share	movies,	
music,	PowerPoint	presentations	and	moving	maps	on	these	
personal	displays.
"When	connected	to	the	aircraft's	GPS	or	FMS,	both	the	
JetJukebox	and	JetStreamer	provide	moving	maps	-	the	
JetJukebox	introduces	our	new	high-resolution	map	display.	
JetStreamer	has	maps	also;	they're	just	not	as	sophisticated."
Dave	Dodson,	the	company's	marketing	director,	explained	
that	another	advantage	of	both	systems	is,	when	connected	to	a	
Wi-Fi	router,	passengers	can	share	data	wirelessly.	
"The	units	are	basically	high-end	file	servers	with	robust,	
high-capacity	SSDs,"	Dodson	said.	"Both	units	are	device	
agnostic,	so	they	work	perfectly	with	any	personal	electronic	
device	the	passengers	bring	on	the	aircraft.	Content	can	either	
be	pre-loaded	on	the	system	via	a	portable	USB	drive	or	
transferred	from	a	PC	to	the	internal	storage	on	the	JetJukebox	
or	JetStreamer	when	the	passengers	board	the	aircraft.
"The	JetJukebox	has	a	built-in	1	terabyte	SSD,	and	the	
JetStreamer	has	a	240	gigabyte	SSD.	With	240	gigs	of	storage,	
the	JetStreamer	can	hold	more	than	100	standard	DVDs.	With	
the	ability	to	use	external	drives,	the	amount	of	available	
media	is	practically	unlimited."
According	to	Dodson,	the	base	price	for	the	JetJukebox	is	
$29,600	and	the	JetStreamer	is	$14,900	-	both	well	within	the	
ready	of	anyone	flying	this	category	of	aircraft.

Astronics' EmPower
Being	successful	in	aviation	is	paying	attention	to	the	
small	things.	And	one	of	the	small	things	that	will	make	
a	huge	impact	on	a	passenger's	in-flight	experience	is	
the	EmPower,	an	in-seat,	power	connection	unit	from	
Astronics	Corp.
"Many	smaller	cabin	and	older	aircraft	have	little	or	
no	AC	power	available	to	the	passengers,	and	those	that	
do	only	have	one	or	two	electrical	outlets,"	explained	
Jeff	Kroeller,	Astronics'	senior	manager	for	business	
development.	"Six	passengers	and	two	available	electrical	
outlets	can	be	a	problem.	The	EmPower	System	enables	
passengers	and	crew	to	operate	their	devices	in-flight	
so	they	have	the	power	they	need	en	route.	But	more	
importantly,	they	will	arrive	at	their	destinations	with	their	
devices	fully-charged	and	ready	to	go.	That's	something	
owner/operators	often	overlook."
Kroeller	explained	that	the	EmPower	System	is	an	
inverter,	which	is	very	small	with	no	special	mounting	
requirements.	"It's	up	to	the	installer	and	the	particular	
aircraft,"	he	said.	"The	EmPower	System	requires	no	
special	shielding	for	the	wiring.	It's	a	very	intelligent	and	
highly	engineered	product	with	a	clean	installation.	From	
the	power-supply	to	a	wire	harness	to	the	sidewall	outlets,	
no	other	equipment	is	required."
He	also	said	that	to	meet	an	operator's	specific	needs,	
the	EmPower	System	can	be	mixed	and	matched	with	AC	
and	USB	connectors.	
"The	dual	USB	and	AC	power	outlet	is	unique	to	this	
product	today,"	Kroeller	said.	"We've	installed	this	system	
on	single-engine	Cessnas	up	to	BBJs.	All	you	need	is	a	
small	footprint	and	28	volts	of	aircraft	power."
