EBTECH, or Reb Technologies,
was established in 1996, and
has become a global leader
providing advanced military and civil
night vision aircraft lighting systems.
Based in Bedford, Texas, the company
has extensive experience developing
night vision lighting for cockpit, cabin
and crew stations, as well as night
vision systems for external airframe
applications to include covert lighting.
REB Technologies has several FAA-approved supplemental type certificates
and has performed lighting modifications and installations for military and
civil customers around the globe.
Recently, Patricia Luebke, Avionics
News contributor, spoke with Curtis
Arnold, completions manager at
REBTECH, to learn more about his work
and life outside the office.

I'm the completions manager with responsibilities to
provide technical support
in the field at our customer
locations for the installation of REBTECH night vision
equipment and modifications. If the customer has
applied the modification,
I check the conformity to
ensure proper compliance.
Additionally, I verify the
customer has the technical
knowledge for continued
airworthiness and proper
maintenance of the supplemental type certificated
equipment supplied by
REBTECH. When I'm not
traveling, I'm in the office
fielding technical questions
for sales and service. I also
provide logistical planning
for installations to minimize
downtime for our customers' aircraft.

I just recently joined REBTECH to
provide the completions services as
part of my 21 years in the aviation
sector.

How did your interest in
aviation develop?

It started back in high school, but
no one in my family was involved
with aviation. A friend and I decided
we wanted to go skydiving, and
that's what sparked my interest.
Navarro College was a local school
in Corsicana, Texas, and had a representative at my high school's career
day promoting its career pilot program. It was a two-year program,
and that's what I wanted to do. I
enrolled and graduated with an
associate degree as a career pilot.

You started as a
professional pilot, correct?
Yes, my first job was a pipeline
and power line patrol pilot. We flew
single-engine Cessnas all over Texas
and Oklahoma. In a short amount of
time, I realized my mechanical background was an asset, and I started
working on aircraft for that company. When I wasn't flying, I would
work on airplanes and eventually
earned my A&P certification.

Do you still fly?

Yes, and I have a commercial airplane pilot certificate with instrument and multiengine ratings.

What was your next
career move?

I wanted to pursue flying, and
that's when I decided to get another
full-time flying job that would
advance my career. I went to work for
a company hauling freight - mostly
flying canceled checks. We flew Beech
