Arm and trained as an electrical fitter.
While concurrently serving his country,
Kus received honors in 1982 from the
Department of Technical and Further
Education, NSW, for completion of its
electronics and communications course.
Avionics 2000 has been a member of
the AEA since December 1994. Kus is
currently serving his third term on the
AEA's board of directors, representing
the Asia-Pacific region.
Kus has a strong bond with the AEA
and its members and is dedicated to the
technological and regulatory progression of this industry that he is so passionate about. When he's not immersed
in his work, Kus enjoys spending time

Michael Schooley

Southeast Aerospace Inc.
Michael Schooley started his career
in aviation in July 1972, by entering the
U.S. Air Force and attending the avionics technician school
at Keesler Air Force
Base in Mississippi.
His first assignment
was at Barksdale AFB
in Louisiana, maintaining B-52G and KC-135
aircraft. After a short assignment at
Barksdale, he cross-trained into the
Airborne Command Post career field as
an in-flight technician on the EC-135
Worldwide Airborne Command Post

aircraft. This included assignments to
the Royal Air Force in Mildenhall, UK,
and Grissom AFB in Indiana.
After more than 13 years of active
duty, Schooley transferred to the U.S.
Air Force Reserve at Homestead AFB
in Florida. He was an electronic countermeasures technician and supervisor
on F-4, F-16, H-60 and C-130 aircraft.
His military service continued progressing, and he eventually retired as
a Command Chief Master Sergeant of
the 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick AFB in
Florida, after 34 years of total service.
Schooley entered civilian aviation after his transfer to the Air Force
Reserve. His first job was a technician/installer/supervisor for National
Jets Inc. in Florida. He maintained a
mixed fleet of Learjets and vintage
DC-4, DC-6 and Convair 340 aircraft.
The avionics systems ranged from
older remote-mount equipment to the
BendixKing panel mount systems.
East Coast Avionics and Banyan
Air Service were stops along the way
to Southeast Aerospace. While at
ECA and Banyan, Schooley developed supplemental type certificates,
perfected repair station manuals and
started parts manufacturing authority
programs. His installation department
completed numerous complex installations, including TCAS II, EGPWS,
EFIS, autopilot and FMS.
Schooley has been with Southeast
Aerospace for the past 10 years. At the
beginning, the business model for SEA
was corporate and general aviation
aircraft avionics installation and support. EGPWS and RVSM installations
with STC processes were the mainstay
of the SEA projects. As requests for
specialized installations for U.S. government and law enforcement aircraft
increased, Schooley steered the niche
of SEA toward special-mission programs. Using Schooley's experience
with military equipment and systems,
SEA became the leader for missile
warning and missile defense systems
installed on UH-1, H-60 and S-61 air-
