In 2006, long-time service manager Larry Molegraaf, installations
manager Rick Brooks, Ensink and
Brouwer joined forces to purchase
the business from Malone. The new
owners have continued to seize opportunities. After 34 years owning
Mayday and more years as a technician, Malone was able to retire.
In the installation department,
Mayday custom-draws wiring diagrams using computer aided drafting, and handles structural and flight
analysis DER (designated engineering representative) approvals. The
company's instrument panel conversions feature powder-coated finishes
with silk-screened placards.
For avionics service, the factorytrained service team averages more
than 23,400 hours of avionics service
business. Keeping track of hours is an
indication of the company's focus on
details. It keeps an extensive loaner
inventory, which allows aircraft owners to get back into the air quickly.
In the autopilot arena, Mayday
handles Century or Edo-Air autopilots back to the C1 models. It also can
handle Bendix M4Ds and FCS 810s.
It is comfortable working with ARC
autopilots from 200 series on up, and
it can service a wide variety of BendixKing and S-TEC autopilots. Mayday is proud of its ability to overhaul
servo motors in-house.
Mayday holds radio class 1, 2, and
3 ratings, a class 3 instrument (gyro)
rating, along with limited airframe,
accessory and instrument ratings.
Brouwer talked about the fact that
Mayday, indeed the entire general
aviation industry, is driven by people
as much as it is technology. Mayday
