your customers' avionics suite and keeping them informed on the
status of an upcoming solution for their aircraft will keep you in
front of customers and reinforce you as their ADS-B expert. At
this point, there are no indicators the FAA is considering pushing
the compliance date to the right. I would not bet my ability to
operate in the national airspace system on the FAA pushing the
deadline back.
This brings us to the biggest objection of any mandate: price.
I have not known many customers, from large corporate jets
to small general aviation aircraft owners and pilots, who liked
being told how and where to spend their money. But this is
the nature of mandates. The cost of the ADS-B upgrades will
range from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands of
dollars.
One tool available to help close the sale of ADS-B upgrades
is the NextGen GA Fund. The Aircraft Electronics Association
recently announced a partnership agreement with the NextGen
GA Fund, which allows AEA member shops to quickly refer
customers to the NextGen GA Fund for affordable financing

alternatives. I hope those of you who attended last month's
AEA International Convention and Trade Show in Nashville
had the opportunity to attend the Lunch & Learn session on the
NextGen GA fund or were able to visit the booth in the exhibit
hall. For those who were unable to attend the convention,
please review the information on the NextGen GA Fund on the
AEA's website. This fund was developed to encourage adoption
of the ADS-B and related technologies, and I hope you will
help your customers take advantage of this great opportunity.
Finally, I encourage you to begin connecting with your
customers and start the dialog on the ADS-B solutions you
offer. Start to drive those ADS-B sales to your hangar door now
using the resources of the AEA, and let's work to avoid the
2019 mad rush.
