Garmin
GARMIN recently celebrated its 20th anniversary of the
Garmin GPS 155 receiving FAA TSO (technical standard
order) authorization, the industry's first FAA TSO-C129
approach approved IFR GPS receiver.
The GPS 155 TSO received FAA TSO approval on Feb.
16, 1994, which set the bar for future technological GPS
advancements in aviation.
"Our commitment to develop state-of-the-art technology
is present yet today as we celebrate this industry-leading
innovation in Garmin history," said CARL WOLF, Garmin's
vice president of aviation sales and marketing. "The GPS 155
TSO laid the groundwork for future aviation milestones and
set the standard for product development, eventually ushering
in the foundational technology for what is now referred to as
NextGen."
According to Garmin, the GPS 155 TSO was the world's
first GPS navigation product to be fully certified to FAA TSOC129, Class A1 standards for non-precision approach use.
For the first time in history, pilots could fly in IMC throughout
the departure, en route and
approach phases of flight
using GPS as the primary
navigation source.

Garmin announced the
GXM 42, a portable SiriusXM
Aviation weather receiver
that allows pilots to access
new weather services made available
by SiriusXM and their enhanced
GXM 42
satellite network. The GXM 42 is
the latest addition to a lineup of
weather antenna receivers. It is compatible with
the aera 796. Compatibility with current production portables is
anticipated to follow later this year.

Sandel Avionics
SANDEL AVIONICS released its latest upgrades to the SG102 (MOD2) AHRS, which is a solid-state,
three-axis instrument certified for primary heading reference and standby attitude.
Enhancements to the SG102 (MOD2) include a three-times faster initialization time
(one minute), and added selectable low- and high-speed ARINC 429 output
that allows for additional interface options with radar systems, satellite
communicator antennas and other avionics.
"These upgrades are especially pertinent for law enforcement,
firefighting and EMS (aircraft)," said GERRY BLOCK, president and CEO
of Sandel. "To ensure we were making the most relevant updates, we
included dealer input as well as worked closely with customers to help direct
the improvements."
The SG102 (MOD2) AHRS is available now.
