Acapella series offers the aviation industry "a viable
option for small scaled entertainment systems without
the difficulties and overhead of a traditional CMS/IFE
system."
Alto Aviation's Acapella system includes three
keypads, offering simple source selection and volume
control, a combination speaker and headphone keypad,
or a speaker audio control with local audio input. All
wiring to the amplifier module includes power for the
keypads, and they can be flush-mounted or installed
using the company's proud mount technique, which
eliminates the need for precise cabinetry cutouts often
associated with traditional CMS/IFE switches. While the
series is fully compatible with all existing Alto speaker
enclosures, the company also announced new speaker
options for non-invasive installations have been designed
for Acapella. Cosmetic grills with speaker enclosures just
behind the panel and speakers that mount to the exterior
surface of a side panel - and only protruding an inch into
the cabin - also are available.

LSA400 and LSA800 PA amplifiers feature a small
footprint, light weight, improved sound and increased
power output. AEM's new external PA speakers may
resemble the old ones, but come with 150-watt-peak
drivers, up from the earlier versions' 100 watts. In fact,
the company designed a new yoke, allowing it to mount
two of the 150-watt drivers to the same speaker, for
300-watt out. As many as four of the speakers can be
connected to the LSA800, providing 1,200 watts of PA
power.
The company's new LSA100 cabin PA amplifier
is built specifically for interior paging and alert-tone
generation. It can handle briefer audio and cockpit mic
audio, and has auxiliary audio input. It can be used
to automate oxygen/pressurization-system failure,
fasten-seatbelt, no-smoking, and baggage-related
announcements, and features in-flight entertainment
muting, a side tone, public address and error code output
capabilities. It also can be configured for up to six
speaker zones, which can be enabled or disabled on its
control panel. The LSA100 also eliminates the need for
costly and heavy external relays.

Perri Coyne, director of marketing operations
for Aspen Avionics, introduced her company's new
EFD1000 Primary Flight Display, which she said
is the "industry's first glass-panel display for VFR
operations." The new PFD seeks to enhance situational
awareness and safety among VFR-only pilots by placing
conventional flight-instrument and navigation data into
a single flat-panel display that can be easily upgraded to
the fully IFR-capable Evolution Pro PFD. The product
targets what Aspen believes are more than 50 percent of
the flying population, who are either VFR-only pilots or
not current for IFR operations.
Retail priced at $4,995, Aspen said its EFD1000
VFR PFD will meet the needs of the VFR pilot now,
plus meet their future IFR-rating goals after a software
upgrade. Meanwhile, the company said the product's
unique form factor and open software architecture
minimizes overall installation costs when compared to
other systems.
"Aspen's goal is to allow the pilot to purchase the
VFR unit and, when they are ready, purchase the
software upgrade," the company said. The software
upgrade converts the VFR-only unit into a fully IFRcapable EFD1000 Pro PFD. The upgrade software will
