PS Engineering
Mark Scheuer, president of PS Engineering,
briefed AEA Convention attendees on his company's
forthcoming product, the PMA 450 audio panel, which
he labeled "pretty significant" and the "most capable and
advanced" example his company has brought to market.
Given PS Engineering's longstanding presence and
reputation in the audio-processing equipment market,
that says something. Add the fact that the PMA 450 was
developed in partnership with the U.S. Air Force, and
things get even more interesting.
One of the results of that partnership, and a feature
built into the PMA 450, is what the company calls

IntelliAudio. Scheuer described this feature - which is
based on digital sound processing methods - as a way
to perform dimensional sound profiling, with one result
being the pilot's ability to listen to two radios at the same
time. Of course, the PMA 450 can perform traditional
audio switching, too. It's all controlled and configured
via a graphics display, using three software-defined
buttons, or soft keys. The PMA 450 also comes with a
digital recorder - allowing the pilot to play back ATC
clearances, for example - and a marker beacon receiver
is optional.
In addition to its built-in IntelliAudio capability, the
PMA 450 sports a front-panel-mounted USB port, which
provides recharging for a pilot or passenger's personal
electronic device. This feature recognizes the popularity
of smartphones and tablets for running a moving-map
application, for flight planning and for other in-cockpit
uses. By placing a USB connector on the device's front
panel, PS Engineering is eliminating the time, effort

and cost necessary to install a dedicated power supply
connection, ensuring a PED's utility in the aircraft.
Scheuer told attendees he expects the first PMA 450
units to ship by the end of June.

Rockwell Collins
Julia Schmitt introduced AEA Convention attendees
to two of her company's newest products. She unveiled
a new, optional, personal tablet mount for the company's
Venue HD cabin management and entertainment system,
which allows passengers to securely mount, charge
and more easily operate Apple iPads and Samsung
Galaxy Tabs. According to the company, the new tablet
mount seamlessly integrates with the aircraft's cabin
management system, providing a more ergonomic
way to use personal electronic devices in the airplane
cabin, whether as a media source or - with Rockwell
Collins apps - to control the cabin environment and the
company's Airshow Moving Map with real-time flight
information. Cabins equipped with the company's Venue
wireless audio/video on-demand capability or its Skybox
streaming service, passengers with tablets can access
digital content already on board.
Earlier, the company introduced Airshow 500, which
it labeled the first 3-D moving map system for light
business jets. The new product comes fully loaded with
highly detailed worldwide maps and other standard
features, including passenger-selectable languages. The
