've just returned from the 2025 National
Business Aviation Association Convention
& Exhibition, and there were some pretty
interesting new aircraft and systems on display.
One of the highlights of the show was the new
StratoStream 1650 pilot-optional, biz jet. Nice,
but I can't see myself flying an airplane with front
windscreen or cabin windows.
Another big announcement was the TCB
PlanetRinger long-range morphing wing jet with the
HAL 9000 autonomous pilot. The HAL 9000 is an
amazing system, but I just kept getting the feeling
that I'd heard the interactive voice before.
Although technology is cool, perhaps it's just
my age. But I think some of these new systems
will take a bit of getting used to. I was trying one
of the eye-controlled, Sapphire glass panels in the
SkyScream booth when an attractive young woman
walked by, and I changed every frequency and
display in the panel.

what new and cool capabilities we'll find in the
cockpits of business and private aircraft in the
coming decade, sometimes it's just fun to toss out
convention and play a game of what-if. And that's
just what we're going to do with some of today's
avionics leaders.
The question is, what do those leaders see in
Avionics News' crystal ball tuned to the year 2025?
Here's what a few of them had to say.

TIM TAYLOR,
Chief Executive Officer, FreeFlight Systems
We see it as a two-stage development process.
Stage 1, which is the stage we are in right now, is
what I call the infrastructure stage. It's where things
like the WAAS infrastructure we implemented
last decade and the ADS-B and aircraft equipage
infrastructures will be done this decade. Stage 1 is
putting in place all the nuts and bolts of what the
next-generation avionics and aircraft will look like.
Stage 2 will be the application stage that will
