Even if the ADS-B In configuration is set properly and the pilot reports they are now able to see the traffic on their portable, this is not an adequate test to see if the installation is correct. The previously installed GTX 330 is often connected to the GPS for the purpose of using the GS to determine the ground or air status of the transponder. Although this provides the transponder with a usable position, it does not include the required data from the position source for accuracy and integrity, nor does it provide the GPS altitude information. A compliance test will spot these missing items and flag the installation as not compliant. To verify compliance, the avionics shop must use the appropriate test equipment or ask the pilot to conduct a flight test and then request the FAA compliance report by sending an email to 9-AWA-AFS-300-ADSB-AvionicsCheck@faa. gov. The FAA uses the system to generate a report for the flight and will flag any noncompliance issues in bold red. Continued on following page avionics news * january 2015 61
