"We are working hard to add a Garmin dealership by the end
of the fourth quarter," he said. "We're working on STC projects
for Part 25 aircraft. As you know, most of their equipment is
certified for Part 23 airplanes. We have to write the flight manual
supplements and ICAs. Our in-house engineering department is
handling that. For this and other STCs, we have a full gamut of
DARs and DERs we work with to assist with project management."
The avionics team also is working on an STC project for a
Universal FMS coupled with a UniLink on a Challenger 604.
The project should be completed first quarter of 2016.
Even with its pristine 25,000-square-foot hangar, much of the
service center's work happens on the road.
"We have D100 authorization from the FAA, and we utilize it
when we have to," he said. "We have a dedicated mobile service
van. We do road trips as far as South Carolina and Key West.
Actually, we go all over the country. If a customer needs us in
Kansas City or Van Nuys, we'll fly there as long as it makes
sense for the customer and we can provide the same quality
service. We have the capacity to take on virtually any alteration
project off-site; I think that really sets us apart."

Investing in the future
While creating its state-of-the-art service center, B. Coleman
Aviation invested more than $5 million into equipment, tooling
and training.
"We've invested heavily in training, having Global Jet
Services training here multiple times," Takacs said. "Just
recently, we've trained on the Hawker 700-900XP, the G-IV,
the Global Express as well as Williams Engines. We are a
Nextant-approved service center for Nextant aircraft. We have
a gentleman who retired from the Coast Guard, and we wanted
to put him into an inspector's position. He and James Stedman
went to the AEA's facility in Kansas City for repair station
training to help him get up to speed in regards to Part 145
regulations."
According to Takacs, B. Coleman Aviation is leaning into
advanced technology, including FANS, CPDLC and ADS-B,
to bring operators more options.
"We're a new company," he said. "We're poised and ready
to partner on STCs with our vendors. At the AEA Convention
in Dallas, we talked with manufacturers, and we're beginning
to work closely with them. Look for some exciting product
announcements from us soon. We have big news coming at the
end of 2015." q
