requirements.
Before 2007, Buzz was an
employee of Duncan Aviation.
Duncan is known for its high-quality
work, and as it grew, coordination
between locations, departments and
divisions became a necessity.
Buzz left Duncan in November
2007 to certify the Clifford
Development FJ44 engine retrofit
on the Cessna 550 and S550. In
2009, he started Dan Buzz &
Associates and worked with partners
he had known for years, providing
DER and other engineering
services. His company spent about

80 percent of its time engineering,
and 20 percent of the time doing
certifications. Today, the company
is spending a considerable amount
of time doing STC work. "The
business is flipping over to more
STC and DER work," he said.
Buzz applied his small-company
agility to the ADS-B mandate.
According to Buzz, "The biggies will
get their own solutions. For smaller
companies with no STC, the service
would be a nice thing to offer."
He also noted these companies
would need support. As a result,
CMD can apply talent and 100
years of avionics experience to help
smaller companies that do not have
the resources available to larger
corporations, or the biggies as he
called them.

CMD works hard to determine
what people truly need. Often, the
company develops alternatives,
whether it's a product or a package,
to differentiate itself.
Another important factor in CMD's
success is communication, mostly via
its website. Aircraft model listings are
included and easy to locate.
Barb Mahoney, executive vice
president of sales and marketing,
is responsible for this part of
the business, and she has a keen
interest in aviation. In fact, she has
attended both the AEA International
Convention & Trade Show and the
NBAA Convention each of the past
five years. Mahoney's degree in
computer science, along with her
experience owning and operating
businesses for more than 25 years,
serves CMD well. According to
Buzz, "Barb is passionate about
customer service, being responsive
and delivering on her word."
A third item working for CMD
Flight Solutions is its relationship
with Dan Buzz & Associates
and with Skylight Avionics. The
relationship with Dan Buzz &
Associates is a given, since Buzz is
president of both companies.
"Skylight has always been
