KITCHENER AERO completed its
first Garmin G-1000 avionics retrofit on
a King Air B200. With this completion,
it joined the ranks of a small handful
of elite shops worldwide that have performed this upgrade, according to the
company.
The G1000 suite integrates all primary
flight information, navigation data, communications, terrain awareness, traffic,
weather, and engine instruments on a
large 15-inch multifunction display and
two 10.4-inch primary flight displays.
According to BARRY AYLWARD,
Kitchener Aero president, "One of the
things that makes this mod unique from
other G1000 King Air upgrades is that
we have installed virtually all of the new
options for the King Air, including GRA5500 Radar Altimeter, GWX-70 Wx. Radar,
and the GRS-7800 Attitude Heading and
Reference System. This is for operations in
our northern domestic airspace."
Aylward also noted that the GRS
7800 enables a free-gyro mode for King
Air aircraft, greatly expanding the authorized area of operation. With this option,
King Air operators increase their global
operational capabilities and have access
to more remote locations.
"Outside of the existing G1000 STC,
we had numerous deviations required to
accommodate different shelf configurations in both the nose and tail, as well
as additional STC deviations for various
antenna relocations due to a cargo pod
installation," Aylward said.

Maxcraft Avionics
MAXCRAFT AVIONICS was awarded an FAA AML STC for installation of the Garmin G500H Flight Display System in a series of Airbus
(Eurocopter) light helicopters. This STC is unique in that it also includes
installation approval for supporting and optional systems including:
Garmin GTN 650, GTN 750, GNS 430W or GNS 530W as the primary
GPS/NAV/COM, Garmin SL 40, GTR 225 or GNC 255 as No. 2 VHF
COM (optional), Garmin GTS 800 Traffic Advisory System (optional) and
FreeFlight RA-4500 Radar Altimeter System (optional).
According to the company, having all of these systems included in one
approved data package greatly simplifies the installation and ongoing
support.
Maxcraft's president, DARYL MACINTOSH, described this STC package as the most comprehensive approved avionics upgrade currently
available for light helicopters. He also noted that traditional backup instruments can optionally be eliminated with installation of the Mid-Continent
MD302 Standby Attitude Module recently approved under Maxcraft's FAA
SR03524NY STC.
